Delta Best Profile Summary

Delta Sue Best, Esquire, is the founder of Best & Spruill, P.C., formerly known as Best & Associates.  The original firm was incorporated as a Professional Corporation in June, 1997, and the name was changed to Best & Spruill, P.C.  in January, 2000.  Ms. Best remains the majority shareholder and President of the firm.  She works closely with all attorneys to ensure high standards of ethical, practical, and personal service in all areas of litigation.  Ms. Best has 1st chaired 100’s of cases during her career and continues in that role today.  She brings creativity and practicality to the firm.

EDUCATION

Ms. Best began her professional career as a nurse in Austin, Texas, and after a successful tenure in that field, returned to college to continue her education.  She was awarded the Peter T. Flawn Presidential Scholarship for academic excellence and received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree (cum laude) in marketing and management from the University of Texas at Austin.  Following her undergraduate degree, Ms. Best received an academic scholarship to Drake University College of Law.  Ms. Best distinguished herself at Drake by obtaining the highest grade in her class in Contracts, Law and Medicine, Trial Advocacy, and Mediation.  She was employed as a nurse law clerk during her three years of law school.  In her final year, she was the primary author of revisions to the Iowa statute regarding health care facilities and the death with dignity statutes.  These revisions were adopted in whole by the Iowa legislature.

Ms. Best conducts seminars and is a sought-after speaker on legal and medical issues for insurance defense clients, private entities, health care facilities, health care professional organizations, and various legal educational groups.  Ms. Best has taught as an adjunct faculty member of Texas State University’s Long-Term Care Administration program, currently serves as part of the faculty of the Center for Health Education and Research, and is an adjunct professor at St. Edward’s University in the Graduate Counseling Program.

PRIOR FIRMS

Ms. Best joined the firm of Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons in Dallas, Texas after obtaining her law degree from Drake University.  Following four successful years with this firm, Ms. Best returned to Austin to join Wright & Greenhill, P.C., where she became a shareholder of the firm.  She was recruited and became a lateral equity partner of Liddell, Sapp, Zivley, Hill & LaBoon, L.L.P., where she remained until leaving to open her own firm in 1997.

MEMBERSHIPS, AWARD, AND HONORS

Ms. Best is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas Association of Defense Counsel, Austin Bar Association (formerly Travis County Bar Association) where she was a former chairperson of the Medical/Legal Committee, American Bar Association, and several legal advisory committees.  She is a Founding Fellow of the Travis County Bar Foundation and was elected to be a lifetime fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation in 2002 which is an honor given to less than one-third of 1% of Texas Lawyers.  Ms. Best also serves on the Ethics Committee for several different types of health care facilities.  In addition to her state practice, Ms. Best is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Western Districts of Texas.  She is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. 

In 2009, Ms. Best received the LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbel Peer Review Rating of Very High Legal Ability and Ethical Standards.

Ms. Best was invited to become a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, which is a select group of lawyers who have obtained verdicts or settlements in excess of $1 million dollars. Less than 1% of lawyers in the entire county are members of this distinguished forum.
