

Delta Best founded the firm of Best & Associates, Attorneys and Counselors at Law, in June 1997. The firm name was changed to Best & Spruill, P.C. January 1, 2000 when Allison Spruill became a shareholder. Ms. Best remains the managing partner of the firm and works closely with all attorneys to ensure the highest standards of efficient, economic and personal service in all areas of litigation and health law issues.
Education
After having a family and enjoying a successful career in nursing, Ms. Best returned to college to continue her education. Ms. Best was awarded the Peter T. Flawn Presidential Scholarship for academic excellence and received her B.B.A. degree (cum laude) in marketing and management from the University of Texas at Austin in 1981. Ms. Best also received an academic scholarship to attend Drake University Law School, where she further distinguished herself by obtaining the highest grade in her section in Contracts, Law and Medicine, Trial Advocacy, and Mediation. She was employed as a nurse law clerk during all 3 years of law school. During her final year of law school, Ms. Best was the primary author of revisions to the Iowa statute regarding health care facilities. These revisions were adopted in while by the Iowa legislature.
Prior Work Experience
Ms. Best received her law degree in 1984 and joined the firm of Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons in Dallas, Texas. She returned to Austin in 1988 to join Wright & Greenhill, P.C., where she became a shareholder of the firm in 1992. In February 1994, Ms. Best was recruited and became a lateral partner of Liddell, Sapp, Zivley, Hill & LaBoon, L.L.P., where she remained until leaving to open her own practice in 1997.
Areas of Practice
Ms. Best has successfully tried numerous lawsuits involving different areas of law, including insurance coverage issues, deceptive trade practices, medical malpractice, products liability, personal injury, principal/agent health liability, premise liability, contract disputes, and employment law. Her major area of practice has been defending health care providers, particularly nursing homes, both in litigation and administrative/regulatory matters. Ms. Best also maintain an active appellate practice in various courts of appeal throughout the State of Texas and before the Texas Supreme Court. She has also been instrumental in negotiating and resolving complex and difficult litigation for amounts far less than demanded. Ms. Best conducts seminars and has been a speaker on legal and medical issues for insurance defense clients, private entities, health care facilities, and various legal educational groups. Ms. Best is an adjunct faculty member of Southwest Texas State University's Long-Term Care Administration program.
Memberships
Ms. Best is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas Association of Defense Counsel, Travis County Bar Association (former chairperson, Medical/Legal Committee), American Bar Association, and several legal advisory committees. Ms. Best is a Founding Fellow of the Travis County Bar Foundation. In 2002 she was elected to be a lifetime fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. Ms. Best also serves on the Ethics Committee for several different types of health care facilities. In addition to her state practice, Ms. Best is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Western Districts of Texas.
